Before the hotel, on the site of the 1450 hunting lodge of the Archduke of Salzburg, re-opened in 2006, Stefan Schörghuber, president of the Schörghuber Corporate Group, asked Konrad Bernheimer to compile a superb array of paintings, to be hung in all the property's 110 rooms and suites, and in public areas (shown is one of these treasures, Allegory of Taste, an oil on canvas, 51.6 x 45 inches, painted by Jean Francois de Troy, born in Paris 1679, died in Rome 1752).
As Bernheimer says, 'Art does not belong just in a museum, but should be an integral part of our everyday lives. This is a belief I share with Stefan Schörghuber, and one which is the guiding principle behind the Schloss Fuschl Collection. We both believe that in a traditional hotel like Hotel Schloss Fuschl works of art should be an important part of the general ambience and that they should contribute on an aesthetic level to the well-being of the guests and stimulate an interest in European art. The Schloss Fuschl Collection is a unique cultural project.'

Bernheimer is owner of Bernheimer Fine Old Masters in Munich, established by his family in 1864 - he is also co-owner, with old drawings specialist Katrin Bellinger of P. & D. Colnaghi & Co. Ltd., set up by Paul Colnaghi in London in 1760, www.colnaghi.co.uk. He is truly passionate about bringing fine art to an appreciative order, and if you would like an Old Master 'to order', contact him via www.bernheimer.com.
To update your Old Masters information, of course, you can also head for Hotel Schloss Fuschl, which is run by General Manager Wolfgang Greiner!
