Cornell Icon of the Industry Awards Dinner

More than 500 guests, including Cornell alumni and industry leaders gathered at the New York Marriott Marquis to attend the first annual Cornell Icon of the Industry Awards Dinner.

The gala event honored an iconic leader and two leading innovators of the hospitality industry, and also served as a fundraiser for programs and scholarships at the School of Hotel Administration.
First Dean and E. M. Statler Professor Michael Johnson and Managing Director of the Pillsbury Institute Tom Ward jointed presented the Leland C. and Mary M. Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship's Innovator Award to TIG Global co-founders, Trip Schneck, President, and Fred Malek, CEO.
The gala culminated in the awarding of the first Cornell Icon of the Industry Award to J.W. "Bill" Marriott, Jr., a legend and pioneer in the hospitality industry. He received the award, presented by Dean Johnson and CEO of title sponsor White Lodging Bruce White, to a rousing standing ovation, and said he was "honored, humbled, and very grateful" for the tribute. He charmingly thanked his family he thanked his associates.
The dinner was organised by Joe Strodel, Jr, Director of Corporate & Foundation Affairs, at Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. Masters of Ceremonies were Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, Co-Anchors of Morning Joe on MSNBC.
The Kiwi Collection table was headed by Kiwi Collection President Philippe Kjellgren, with WOW.travel Editor-in-Chief Mary Gostelow. Among their guests were Angelina Jolin of ELLE Sweden, Sana Butler of Newsweek, Peter Greenberg and Joseph Robinson, CO/President A Small World www.asw.com Among the many industry friends we also caught up with were Alec Kyriakidis of Deloitte, Laurence Geller of Strategic Capital, Melinda Bush, and Joe McInerny, President/CEO of the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
