I’ve been to Greece a few times now, and loved it on each occasion. In my opinion, the fact that Greece has only been in the news lately because of its recent debt crisis is all the more reason to get over there – as soon as possible!
Visiting Greece in the summer can be a fairly hectic experience, as it seems like most of Europe – not to mention the rest of the world – has descended upon its pristine beaches.
This year, however, things are a bit different.
Tourism is down, and it doesn’t look like it will be picking up any time soon. Beaches that are normally packed are blissfully bare, bars that are brimming with humanity are conspicuously quiet, and tavernas that are usually packed with people are… quite quieter.
That said, this country – home to romantic ruins, awe-inspiring history, and the kind of people that make you laugh until your belly aches – is still a magnificent place to visit. Not to mention the fact that the service will be better than ever if you’re not having to compete for the attention of servers, bartenders, and hoteliers.
