This Valentine’s Day, forgo the typical (see: red roses, teddy bears) and opt for the out of this world. To give you a hand creating an unforgettable experience for your paramour, we’ve compiled a top 10 list of the most romantic and unique date ideas.

Think you can out-romance us? Here’s your chance Romeos and Juliets. We’ve only filled in nine, the tenth is up for grabs. The prize for providing the best date “do”? A romance package for two in the clement Caribbean, courtesy of Viceroy Anguilla.

Here’s how lovers:

1. Check out our list of top romantic dates.

2. In the comment field, share your romantic, unique date idea (50 words or less).

3. On Valentine’s Day, the best date idea will be chosen to round out our top 10 list.

4. The finalized list will be published and announced on Viceroy’s Facebook page (Don’t forget to “Like” Viceroy’s Facebook page to play.)

Prize – Winner is awarded the Viceroy Anguilla Romance Package ($5,700 value – 3 nights in the rooftop suite, couples massage, romantic dinner and a bottle of bubbly)

Top 10 Romantic Date Ideas

1. Spend three nights in a rooftop suite with a private deck and plunge pool overlooking blue Caribbean waters (complete with champagne toast) at Viceroy Anguilla. Ease into the day with a couple’s massage at the Spa. Sup and sip the night away with a three-course dinner and bottle of vino. What a winning glow you’d get.

2. Steam up in a natural Japanese onsen (a.k.a. hot spring) in Japan’s country side. We heard most onsens apply a no clothing rule. How convenient.

4. Take up an afternoon cooking class in the culinary capital of Paris and learn how to make a souffle. Then devour the goods over candlelight. Oui, oui, oui.

6. Skate around iconic Wollman Rink in New York’s Central Park. Hold hands, watch your cheeks turn rosy red, follow with a healthy helping of hot chocolate.

7. Bicycle along the rolling vineyards of Napa Valley. Get buzzed off life. That, and your fourth glass of Chardonnay.

8. Salsa under the stars in Sao Paulo, Brazil with the help of a few pitchers of sangria and a live band.

9. Dress up in your nautical blues and whites and spend the day sailing the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. Pack a picnic to share during sunset.

  82. Joe says:

My idea of a romantic date night that would be out of this world is somewhat tailored to my fiancée and I. When I traveled to China a few years ago, I took a paddle boat ride on the lake at the Summer Palace. While on the water, I saw a small island with beautiful blooming trees. I thought it was exceptionally romantic. When I met my fiancee, I told her about this and we used to talk about the amazing romantic stories we could incorporate this scene in. I told her how I would have loved to propose to her there, but that I didn’t have the money…so we came up with a better idea. Our idea was to, after we got married, go to China (for an anniversary) and find the island, where I could propose like I wanted, and then have a private re-commitment ceremony in China, before travelling all over the country and seeing the amazing culture and experiencing the amazing country.

I find romance to be highly personalized. I am sure that all the ideas shown here would be amazing and great, but my idea of a romantic date night or experience has always been the idea I just shared.

  83. Renee says:

We seek powder-blue & turquoise waters of the south pacific…perhaps, an over the water bungalow at French Polynesia’s Le Meridien resort on Bora Bora island. Which offers stunning views, of Mt.Otemanu and Bora Bora lagoon, exquisite gourmet dinning. Snorkeling in the lagoons crystal waters amongst hundreds of colorful, and exotic fish, and sea turtles. Basking in the glow of this latitudes warm sun on our private deck, while sipping chilled champagne and enjoying a gourmet offering from Le Tipanie restaurant. We feast upon our love for this place and each other…only to repeat today’s events again tomorrow.

The MOST ROMANTIC date can start by showing up to the door of your princess in a White limo, with a nice bouquet of fresh red roses in hand and a nice Teddy to give her the minute she opens the door. Take her to a secluded beach where you have set up a table and a couple of chairs and 4 torches around you both, the limo driver doubles as your server with champagne and some exquisite O’ d hours he had in the trunk of the limo. Next mariachis show up to serenade you both while you eat and drink holding hands. Then you walk barefoot hand in hand looking at the starry sky until you both fall down to the sand in a blissful kiss!

With all of the demands of today’s life, there seams to be little for us to enjoy together without planning the next task to get done or the schedule for our daughter. Yes time alone, any where, is the final frontier to take a line from Star Trek. We steal minutes here and there but to have a complete weekend with out any responsibilities would be heaven.

Valentines Day, a whole day once a year devoted to love. Not many people actually mesmerise the true meaning of love as it could be anyone in your life; not just your partner. To have a “Valentine” means to be in love, to have a romance; not necessarily an intimacy, but a passion, connection, and desire for one another.

  129. Tamara Jacobs says:

Firstly, my Valentine is my Mum. She is the one of the most eminent people in my life and beyond and she definitely means a lot to me. She is a very vivacious, exhilirating, strident, jubilant, and affectionate woman. She has brown silk-like hair swishing through the air briskly, two agape hazel eyes beaming delightfully, and a pulcritudinous gaping grin locked on her gorgeous, long shaped face. My mother absolutely cherishes health farms as likes to be healthy, therefore, I would venture with her to her most favoured one located in Austria. After numerous relaxed and peaceful days, we would make another expedition on a first class flight to New York, of which is accordingly her favourite city, omiting London. Then we would go shopping, purchasing the finest things in the shop!

A romantic date is definitely like beauty in the eye of the beholder. If you’re with someone that brings butterflies to your stomach at the touch of their hand, you could be walking in the rain in DC, sharing a dinner in an Italian village, or taking in the sunshine while laying on a blanket in a Parisian park, and it doesn’t matter. Near or far, we should all be making the most of our time and with our loved one. Cobble stone bicycle rides together can make us feel young. A week at an exclusive beach resort can make us feel intimate. Living among the locals of a different culture can make us feel alive with vigor. The art of keeping romance alive requires spontaneity, joy, love, and laughter! The rest is details. Happy Valentine’s Day.

After a long shower for two, we venture to the infinity pool for a nice lunch with wine & the most wonderful oven views. Followed by a late afternoon massage, pool side. Upon entering the suite there is a surprise gorgeous red dress/ shoes/ accessories laid upon the bed for me to wear to dinner. Dinner is follow by an evening of dancing with our own private serene. The day is completed with a stroll along the beach & dessert picnic for two ocean side…. can I go now, pls!

my favorite ‘date’ was not actually spent with my partner, ironically. I arranged a massage – obtaining some key landmarks of where their spa was located (he was in a different city at the time). I sent him instructions pieces at a time – eventually landing him to the address <3

A private swim in the green grotto in Capri, Italy with my husband. We went there almost twenty years ago for our honeymoon. We rented a boat and went alone to the grotto and it was the most beautiful color green i’ve ever seen. we sat in the cave and undressed it was sweet and delicious and romantic.

What a great memory twenty years later.

When things go bad and get rough we always remember Capri.

Rose petals laid all over the table and floor, surrounded by beautiful bottles of wine, fed a 7 course chef prepared meal with wine and 2 DESSERTS…the last of which had written “Will you marry me?”
