Kathy Lette first achieved succès de scandale as a teenager with the novel Puberty Blues, which was made into a major motion picture by Oscar-winning director Bruce Beresford. Since then, she’s penned a plethora of bestsellers, including Mad Cows , Nip ‘n’ Tuck, Dead Sexy, and most recently, Men – A User’s Guide.
Warm and welcoming, the personalized service of Le Burgundy is first class. They even procured a pair of otherwise impossible-to-obtain tickets to the Bone Marrow Meltingly Marvellous Monet exhibition. The hotel’s 59 rooms and 8 suites blend contemporary furnishings with old-fashioned elegance. The rooms are spacious and light and luxuriously comfortable with good beds and meltingly soft armchairs. Dress code is casual which means you won’t be arrested by the chic police for making a fashion faux pas.
Combining a traditional French exterior with modern, light filled interiors, the hotel walls are decorated with lithographs, photographs and paintings. Highlights are the Baudelaire restaurant ceiling fresco by Marco del re and a black and marble Guy de Rougemont puzzle sculpture dominating the mezzanine. My room was also remarkably quiet and private for a hotel in the heart of Paris.
Le Burgundy’s Baudelaire restaurant offers delicious French cuisine with a modern twist, not to mention a good à la carte menu. French women are so enviably slim, they must order one crouton – then share it. But portions here are generous.
The hotel doesn’t have the views of Le Crillon or the Ritz, but situated just off the shopping mecca of Rue Saint-Honore, it’s within strolling distance of Paris’ top ten tourist attractions, including the Louvre, the Tuileries, Place Vendome, the Eiffel Tower and of course the prolific fashion shows.
After a few days of living in Le Burgundy, I had taken to the good life as if to the château born. All in all, Le Burgundy is a cozy and comfortable retreat in the heart of a car-honkingly hectic city. For a stylish, elegant Parisian break, you couldn’t do better.
