Smyth Tribeca is an ultra-cool addition to the neighbourhood. I would describe the décor as mid- century modern with a somewhat more sophisticated color palette – this is after all, New York not Palm Springs.

My contemporary, loft-style room was stylish, comfortable and, by New York standards, a good size. The bathrooms were especially nice. I enjoyed the Kiehl’s amenities and the floor-to-ceiling translucent glass showers.

The service was fast and friendly and not once did I get a sense of impatience or irritation at my behest. The restaurant was fine and the bar was as you would expect from a hotel of this quality. But with so many amazing bars and restaurants in the vicinity, it is difficult for any to really stand out. Having said that, I stay at this hotel but eat at Locanda Verde, which is one of my favorite restaurants downtown.

Cool and contemporary, the Smyth Tribeca is indeed a hip hotel in the heart of New York’s hippest neighbourhoods.
