Neil Perry is one of Australia’s most influential chefs. Today, he concentrates on his flagship brand, Rockpool, which includes an array of restaurants, and leads a team of consultants to Qantas Airways on menu development. He is also an author of five recipe books and a television presenter on The Lifestyle Channel.

Review

This hotel is a surprise. From the street it seems unassuming enough. That is, until you reach the end of the bamboo lined driveway. Upon entering the PuLi I was instantly calmed, entranced by the beauty and tranquillity of this wonderful hotel. The lobby area is just breathtaking. The front desk stretches along the entire room and becomes the bar. It has the most amazing backdrop of water and trees. It is the very definition of serenity.

Equipped with everything you need, the rooms are comfortable and modern. The hotel’s location is great if you’re in Shanghai to shop. Admittedly it is not near the Bund, but nonetheless, we quickly fell in love with the area. It is an oasis of cool, quiet luxury in the heart of a frantic city. There are some great restaurants in the neighbourhood and NanJing West Road is a 2-minute walk away.

The breakfast at the hotel’s Jing’An restaurant is not to be missed. A huge array of tropical fruit, cereals, pastries and hot food is sure to please.

If you have time for a treatment at the spa then you’ll be in heaven. It’s a whole new level of pampering.

This is a great hotel. I can’t wait to get back there!
