Chile: Safe for Travel after Earthquake

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

The world opened their hearts to Chile after the recent devastating earthquake at the end of February. Relief and rebuilding efforts are ongoing, helping those most affected by the quake. The most recent positive news to be heard is that as of Monday March 15th electricity was restored to all of Chile after an overheated transformer caused a blackout for over 90% of the country.

chileAnd although there is still a lot of work that needs to be done in the country, not all areas of the country have been affected and Toruismo Chile would like to state that visiting the country is safe and all visitors from around the world are welcome.

Certain areas of the country such as the Desert, Easter Island and Patagonia have been virtually unaffected by the recent earthquake, while areas such as Santiago and the Central regions, where the heart of the earthquake occurred have experience damage but nothing that would affect travel. The Passenger Terminal of the Santiago Airport did not suffer structural damage and the main runways of the local air terminal show no problems. Passenger transit has been restored to normal and buses are available to central Santiago until affected areas are repaired. Telecommunications are almost back to normal with 95% of affected areas operating for cellular and landlines.

Come to France for the release of the Beaujolais Nouveau Wines

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

beaujolais-grapesAs serious wine drinker knows, no matter when the harvest begins, the third Thursday of November the world is treated to the release of the Beaujolais Nouveau wines. This year November 19, 2009 is the big day of celebration to clear your calendar and get ready to drink. A votre santé!

By law, the Beaujolais producers cannot start selling their wine until the stroke of midnight on the third Thursday of November and once that happens, the race is off to see who can get the wine to Paris and the rest of the world first.  Not too heavy, young and very fruity, Beaujolais is usually the “fun” wine on most drinkers lists. Made from Gamay grapes in the Beaujolais region for France this wine is low in tannins and is very close to white wine in taste because of the way it is processed and it’s one of the only reds that actually benefits from being served slightly chilled.

All over France, people will be celebrating the arrival of this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau wines. And while in the country, make sure to stay at one of these luxury hotels in France.

Raise Your Wine Glass in Celebration of Little Nell’s 20th Anniversary!

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

wine-glass

It all started 20 years ago; The Little Nell in Aspen Colorado began. And now in celebration of its 20th anniversary, The Little Nell has carefully selected 20 of its most memorable wines from the thousands of bottles served at the hotel over the past two decades for a commemorative list, available for a limited time beginning December 1, 2009.

the-little-nell

Since its start in 1989 the hotel has worked with exceptional Master Sommeliers, each who have brought their extensive knowledge to this luxury hotel’s 20,000 + bottle wine cellar. This has earned The Little Nell the Grand Award from Wine Spectator each year since 1997.

The plan for this big even is to take guests and diners on a retrospective journey through the years with a sampling of wines that represent the finest vintages, producers, regions, treasure and great values from the cellar over the last 20 years.
