Thursday, December 31st, 2009

mimosaNothing cures the pains of a festive New Years Eve party then hair of the dog. Chances are your 2010 countdown involved copious amounts of champagne, making a morning Mimosa all that more enjoyable.

With its origins in luxury, the Mimosa was invented back in 1925 at the Hotel Ritz Paris and has continued to be the best brunch cocktail around, especially on New Year’s Day.

Exact mixing proportions to create the cocktail is widely debated but equal parts of fresh squeezed orange juice and chilled Champagne served in a champagne flute will make the perfect mimosa.

If you don’t feel like making your own mimosa, Kiwi Collection has some of the best hotels from around the world to find a great mimosa and celebrate the New Year!

Hotel Gault is the Epitome of “Montreal Chic”

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Hotel Gault in Montreal

Walking into the super sleek lobby of Hotel Gault in Montreal, I was secretly excited to be greeted in French by the gentleman at the front desk. I have always hoped I look French… but unfortunately for me the charade was up about two seconds later as I realized I barely knew any French, and had to come up with a response to his greeting.

“Do you by chance speak English?” I said, as I gave a smile. Of course he did! Thank goodness.

Hotel Gault - Montreal Hotels

It is always a bit intimidating arriving in a new city that doesn’t speak your language, but I was quickly put at ease by the incredibly friendly and gracious staff at Hotel Gault.

After checking in, I took the lift up to the fourth floor and found my room. I couldn’t help but grin as I walked in and heard French classical/jazz music playing – I really was in Montreal!

Delicious gourmet chocolates awaited me at my modern desk near the door, along with a water bottle and the weather report for the next day. Minus four degrees Celsius with sun.

Not bad for a winter’s day in Montreal.

Warm spotlights lit up my large, minimalist room, highlighting its incredible features from the luxurious and low-sitting, heather grey FLOU® bed, with custom-made linens, the white-oak paneling of my closets, two enormous windows, the sexy polished concrete flooring with oversized contemporary rug and the oh-so-glorious bathroom.

Luxury Hotels in Montreal - Hotel GaultLet’s pause a moment and talk about this bathroom. It was one of the best aspects of the room in my opinion; think open concept with a private closet for the toilet, a stall shower with glass door, a pristine free-standing white porcelain tub fit for two, and heated flooring. C’est magnifique!

But let’s not stop there. The 30-room boutique hotel in Montreal is actually housed in a former textile warehouse, revitalized into an inviting space with a warm, innovative design. The lobby boasts impressive art by Lorraine Joannette and leads to a bright eating and lounge area.

A full breakfast is served here every morning, and is included in your room rate. And yes, it was a delicious spread. Other delicious meals and drinks can be enjoyed here as well until 3 a.m.! Walk a bit further and you’ll hit the cozy library/living room area, where you can enjoy a quiet and relaxing moment with a vast array of literature or you can peruse the DVD selection to rent from and bring up to your room.

Hotel Gault is located in the heart of Old Montreal’s booming West End. This means staying here is a treat because you are within walking distance to countless art galleries and cafes, cute restaurants, boutique shops, Square Victoria metro station, the Saint Laurent River, an outdoor skating rink, horse carriage rides…the list goes on.

I enjoyed staying at this hotel so much that I had to coax myself into leaving so that I could see the rest of Montreal.

If you’re traveling for business or leisure, this incredible property is guaranteed to be the icing on the cake.

Hermitage Bay Resort in Antigua
January and February are the perfect months to escape the cold and enjoy the warm, azure waters of the Caribbean. Hermitage Bay on the beautiful island of Antigua is an eco-friendly hotel designed for guests who really want to discover the natural beauty of the region.

Hermitage Bay is one of the most luxurious hotels in Antigua, and prides itself on its green initiatives and building practices, locally sourced food for its restaurant and secluded, lush location.

Hermitage Bay in Antigua

Found on the west coast of the island, Hermitage Bay overlooks the Caribbean Sea. The resort has 25 spacious Cottage Suites set within 140 acres of undeveloped tropical land. In fact, its location is one of the major things that make this resort stand out – guests are left with a totally relaxing sense of being far away in a private, tropical paradise.

If you really want a to take the experience of seclusion even further, the water sports team can drop you off by boat at one of the many deserted beaches surrounding the hotel with a picnic. Someone will come and pick you up when you are ready to go home.

Health and eco-conscious guests will really enjoy dining at Hermitage Bay. The resort uses organic, locally sourced ingredients for its cuisine, which is not only excellent for the local economy, but the environment as well.

The hotel grows its own herbs on site and guests can expect a memorable experience when sampling any of award-winning Chef Dezi Banhan’s culinary masterpieces.

The suites, which are perfect for extended stays on Antigua, boast gorgeous views of the island.

If privacy and seclusion is what you’re looking for, be sure to stay at one of Hermitage’s Hillside Cottage Suites. These cottages have private plunge pools complete with sunbathing areas and chaises, a wrap-around deck and (one of our favourite features) an outdoor “garden shower”, which allows guests to bathe under the stars.

After enjoying the grounds at Hermitage Bay, be sure to indulge in a spa treatment at its award-winning spa. This hotel’s spa is not to be missed as it made Conde Nast Traveler’s “Hot List”. You’ll find it on a secluded hillside.

In keeping with Hermitage’s philosophy, they are about to launch a new spa product line from Dorissima which uses only organic ingredients.

Remember that if you’re staying more than three nights, you can make use of the complimentary VIP ‘meet and greet’ at the airport and free transfers to and from the resort.

What a way to relax this winter!

The hotel was designed by Tony Chi & Associates, an internationally acclaimed design firm with a philosophy of creating “invisible design”, which means that their designs are about “what touches you rather than what you see”.

This philosophy is evident at the Park Hyatt, Shanghai as it has a modern, simplistic design with touches of Chinese influence.

The Park Hyatt, Shanghai occupies the 79th to 93rd floors of the Shanghai World Financial Center in the heart of the Lujiazui business district in Pudong, Shanghai. And being that this building is one of the tallest in the world at 101 stories, this makes the Park Hyatt, Shanghai one of the tallest hotels in the world. This highlight is featured with huge floor to ceiling windows offering sweeping views of the Pu Dong skyline.
