Destination Dispatches: Basking in the Glow of the Bellagio

I have a new acronym for you: UVIP. It stands for “Ultimate Very Important Person” and it’s more fitting for the sort of service the Bellagio offers. Here, even non-celebrities are made to feel a little famous. The limo on arrival and private check in at the VIP Lounge has something to do with that. I loved being able to avoid the crowds and find myself in my suite shortly after arriving.

With the hotel’s 70 million dollar renovation of 2,500 rooms complete, I was excited to be staying in a redone Lakeview suite. Since my trip was not strictly pleasure, I appreciated the touches that showed they consider the busy business traveler, like an ergonomically-designed desk. Now that everyone sleeps with their phone, guests can appreciate the bedside iHome docking station and electrical connections on the bedside lamps. But, the highlight of my room had to be the bed, developed especially for The Bellagio by Serta. The mattress was so comfortable, I wanted one for my own home. Add the incredible view of the Bellagio Fountains with Frank Sinatra crooning in the background, and it was hard to leave the room.

But of course I had a busy schedule, some of which involved lounging poolside on the beautifully manicured grounds reminiscent of the Mediterranean, and a day of spa services to enjoy. The two-story, 65,000 square foot spa is for hotel guests only. Come early for your appointment to take full advantage of the cold plunge pools, dry saunas, and steam rooms.

Gym rats will love the state of the art equipment, which includes Pilates Reformers and Vibration machines, in the fitness facility overlooking the pool. After relaxing in the spa, a visit to the salon downstairs for a blowout and make-up application will have you red carpet ready.

Come evening, there’s more wow. Made famous by the movie Oceans 11 and the 100 million dollar Pablo Picasso collection (and two Michelin stars), the Picasso restaurant is an incredible way to start the evening. Take in the five-course degustation menu while seated in front of the fluttering fountains for one of the most romantic meals you will have on the strip.

Follow that up by ingesting Cirque de Soleil’s breathtaking show, O. And for your own finale, have a nightcap at the recently opened, Hyde Lounge. The popular nightclub, and a favorite among celebs, feels intimate despite the grand fountain backdrop.
