Whether flying first class or coach, waking up on 400 thread-count silk sheets or basic cotton, travel takes a toll on supermodel and civilian alike. Herewith, six tried and tested products to help you summer sojourners of the female persuasion walk-off and wake-up looking your best.
1. Skin: Dermalogica Solar Defense Wipes SPF15
The only good burns I’ve seen are Comedy Central Roasts, but even there you don’t want to be on the receiving end. Stave off a chapped hide with these pre-moistened, water-resistant sunscreen wipes. Loaded with protection to combat sun damage and antioxidant vitamins to alleviate premature aging, they come in a travel-ready pack. No worrying about goopy white lotion leaking in your luggage is what I love.
2. Hair: Shu Uemura Essence Absolue
Good as a pre-shampoo, leave-in or for post-styling shine, this is a magical mane elixir. Camellia Oil, once a geisha beauty secret, is its key ingredient that miraculously moisturizes stressed tresses stripped by sun and salty sea. Jennifer Aniston’s hairdresser uses it, but it’s my opinion that really counts, right? While this 5 oz. bottle can’t accompany you in your carry-on, its worth pouring some into a smaller bottle to have on hand.
3. Cheeks: NARS Blush Bronzer Trio
Typically, it’s what’s on the inside that counts—here it’s three classic, useful NARS products: Laguna bronzing powder for a faux glow, Orgasm blush for a faux flush and Albatross highlighter for faux contouring—but with its new zip-up packaging, it’s also the outside, keeping all three powders within on lock-down no matter what turbulence you hit.
4. Cover: YSL Touche Éclat
What coffee does for you brain in the morning, this does for your face after a long-haul flight. A favorite of every beauty editor I know, it reflects light, stepping in where lack of sleep left off. Click and whisk a little bit under the eyes to conceal dark circles, and anywhere there’s dour discoloration.
5. Lips: Chanel Rouge Coco Shine
The Hybrid is the thing. Priuses, Ligers and now lipsticks. This new Chanel creation applies like a lipstick, but lighter and silkier, and has the sheen of a gloss, sans that product’s sticky thickness. For a very of-the-season pucker, choose a candy pink, coral or tangerine shade.
6. Eyes: GOSH Extreme Art Eye Liner
I’d typically say leave the liner at home, but if you’re going from sailboat to Cannes soirée, a little ’60s-inspired Brigitte Bardot cat-eye goes along way. Recommended to me by a make-up artist, this semi-permanent liquid stays on through thick and thin, i.e. crying over the restaurant being completely out of Ahi tuna and surf lessons where you learn more about near-drowning than standing on waves. It also comes in nearly every colour of the rainbow, but I opt for classic black.
