Farah’s Fantastic Finds

- Farah Khan, Kiwi Collection.

There’s nothing like a trip to Asia to remind you of the discoveries you can make in a place like this. Read on for some of my tips when traveling to Shanghai, Krabi, Koh Samui, and Hong Kong.

Shanghai: JIA Shanghai

“JIA” means home in mandarin… which must be why this hotel feels like home, thanks to little touches such as warm, comfy interiors and plush carpeting. The result is a very chic yet cozy boutique experience.

Looking for a trendy dining experience? Give the Italian restaurant and lounge on the second floor a try. The restaurant defines rustic-chic Italian and the bar on the second floor – Issimo –  is awesome. My fave was the thin crust pizza and the panna cotta for dessert!

Are you a shopper? Located in the heart of the shopping district, this property is literally around the corner from the main shopping street in a touristy area (Nanjing xi road). Uniqlo, a very popular store in Japan, just opened next door to the hotel. Its prices for basic t-shirts and clothes are insanely low.

Craving comfort? Make yourself at home and enjoy complimentary breakfast, all-day beverages, afternoon cakes and evening cocktails in the residents’ lounge – the “living room.”

Has your laundry piled up? The hotel has a laundry area for guests who have been traveling for a while and need to wash a few loads!

Krabi: Rayavadee

This hotel is located on one of the most amazing beaches in Thailand with views of nearby islands, where you can take your own kayak (free of charge to all guests) and go explore yourself.

Hungry? Go to the Grotto, a restaurant placed in a cave, where you can feast on lunch or dinner on the beach in a truly unique setting. The views – inside and out – are incredible, and its Thai cuisine is amazing.

Need anything while you’re here? The service is excellent, and the staff is  available 24/7 to deal with any requests… help always comes promptly and efficiently.

Want to get outside? There are amazing winding paths for the hotel’s buggies to go down, where you pass by rivers, and are transported into a jungle setting.

Looking for unique accommodations? The villas here are circular in design and have two floors. Upstairs is the bedroom and a large bathroom and downstairs is a general living area. The interiors have an intriguing, authentic Thai feel to them.

Head here for a divine honeymoon, simply spend some time lying by the pool, or go on an excursion to a nearby island like Phi Phi, where the famous movie “The Beach” was filmed. Explore the nearby islands yourself either by kayak or during other water activities like snorkeling.

Krabi: Pimalai Resort & Spa

At this hotel, views of the jungle and accommodations like the pool villas are breathtaking. The restaurant on the beach boasts a perfect seating, and there are various pools to choose from – all giving poolside loungers absolutely stunning views.

The entire resort is so well thought out, making you feel like you’ve discovered an incredible national park as you weave your way through the jungle to the beach, past waterfalls and running streams, arriving at an amazing spa.

Looking for privacy? The hotel’s location on top of the hills, coupled with the way the villas are spaced out makes this property feel very private.

Want something special? Stay in one of the huge pool villas that offer stunning views of the beach, jungle, and ocean.

Ready for a unique dining experience? The beach restaurant serves incredible food like surf and turf and fresh, grilled seafood. Try the coconut ice cream – so fresh!

Koh Samui: Six Senses Hideaway Samui – A SALA Property

Your personal Villa Butler will make you feel really special here. Plus, the hotel’s restaurant and the views from the main infinity swimming pool are spectacular. Lie by the pool, lounge in your villa, and wander around Fisherman’s village or the markets.

Looking for a special location? The property is set on a fairly remote peninsula, making it a true hideaway. The beautiful views from the pool, restaurants and most villas stretch across the sea and leave guests breathless.

Want to stretch out? The villas are a generous size and built in a way that fits in with the environment while remaining luxurious.

Craving something delicious? Head to Dining on the Rocks, which features modern interpretive cuisine with a tasting menu like no other.  The restaurant offers stunning views of the water and the menu features mouth-watering takes on surprising dishes  paired with an ensemble of amazing wines. Your glass will never be empty… at the very least, always half-full!

Hong Kong: The Upper House

This is a perfect business trip hotel or a great place for those wishing to stay in or around an impressive shopping area, as there is a mall full of designer shops in the building. The check in process is entirely different: there is no front desk and the entire experience is very personal and your VIP check-in carries you right to your room.  The minute you step inside, you are greeted by one of the hosts, taken up a long elevator and then straight to your room, which either faces the city or the green hills.

Are you an ardent architecture follower? Designed by famous Chinese Architect, Andre Fu, this hotel is an oasis in the city. The atmosphere is very zen and spa-like. Perhaps that explains why the hotel doesn’t even have a spa- the whole experience is calming!

Fan of famous food destinations? Café Gray Deluxe, the famed NYC eatery, rests on a high floor that overlooks the city, giving guests amazing views and providing a very hip and happening hot spot for after work cocktails or dinner.

Into your nightlife? Make your way to Lan Kwai Fong to meet up with locals and tourists. Everyone gathers here in the streets and stays for drinks in or outside the bar.

  1. I have never wanted to go to Thailand so bad! The Rayavadee looks amazing!
    Great Post!

  2. Sara says:

I love Thailand. The first time I went I almost cried when I left. I thnk I would live there if I could.

  3. I love those infinity pools that overlook the ocean. They look dangerous like they are going to slide away but are really spectacular. Santorini is another place with many infinity pools.

  4. Koh Samui says:

Some nice photos here, some good resorts I would like to stay in all of them. Koh Samui has so many nice resorts. The Six Senses is wow..
