Fresh Picks: Avalon Beverly Hills

- Joy Pecknold, Passport blog editor

Fresh Picks features the latest luxury properties admitted into the Kiwi Collection. This week, we head to balmier climes and check out the Avalon Beverly Hills.

Where: Beverly Hills, California. Does the star-spangled suburb of Los Angeles County really need any introduction? The hotel itself is nestled between the shopping district (Rodeo Drive is just a couple blocks away) and a residential neighborhood.

What: The Avalon’s 83 rooms and main areas have been decorated by interior designer Kelly Wearstler. She’s given everything a touch of late ’70s glamour. Azure, sea green, white, gold—the palette is both elegant and easy. Shop in the morning, lounge by the pool in the afternoon and dine at the lauded on-site Oliverio Restaurant at night. For the pinnacle of posh, book the top floor penthouse suite with its 1,000 square foot private rooftop patio.

Who: Those who like hotels with history. Back when it was the Beverly Carlton, Marilyn Monroe, Mae West and Lucille Ball stayed here.

Why: While fall has befallen many of us, L.A. is still on a hot streak (how does 90 degrees Fahrenheit sound to you?). They don’t call it sunny California for nothing.
