Fresh Picks: Blue Diamond Riviera Maya

- Joy Pecknold, Passport blog editor

Fresh Picks features the latest luxury properties admitted into the Kiwi Collection. This week, we follow the sun to Blue Diamond Riviera Maya.

Where: In Playa del Carmen along the Riviera Maya, less than an hour from Cancun, yet a world away.

What: In a refreshing palette of white, wood and wicker, the 128 junior suites and suites are studded along river waterways, a Mayan Cenote, and the Mexican Caribbean Sea. All come with either a balcony or terrace, and some feature private docks and pools, like their spectacular beachfront casitas. The luxury all-inclusive offers Nouvelle Fusion cuisine at their Ambar restaurant, and an oceanfront tapas bar, plus a pool bar and cigar lounge. There are also a number of other complimentary extras, including a ocean dive or snorkeling tour and a round of golf. Afterwards, hit up the spa.

Who: Better to ask who can’t come here: kids. This resort is adult-only.

Why: See above. Kids are fun and all, but sometimes you just want to enjoy your margarita without getting a pool toy to the head or hearing the squeal of a mini meltdown. Also, let us reiterate that this is an all-inclusive, so that means bottomless drinks. Otra cerveza por favor.
