Fresh Picks: Café Royal Hotel London

- Joy Pecknold, Passport blog editor

Fresh Picks features the latest luxury properties admitted into the Kiwi Collection. This week, we check out the recently re-invented London landmark, Café Royal.

Where: On Regent Street, situated between the neighborhoods of moneyed Mayfair and artsy Soho.

What: The hotel has honed in on understated luxury in its 159 rooms. In contrast to the bustling metropolis that surrounds it, suites are beautifully pared down to give guests a palate-cleanse—yet all the details are covered, like Carrara marble bathrooms, Egyptian cotton linens and private butlers. There’s also a swish new gym and spa, the Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre, which offers Watsu hydro-experiences (if you haven’t tried one, let us tell you they’re truly amazing), a private and public Hammam and other treatments. Holding true to its legacy, there are several restaurants and bars held within, including a restored Grill Room.

Who: In its storied past, the place has entertained Elizabeth Taylor, Winston Churchill, Virginia Woolf, Oscar Wilde, and Muhammad Ali. Now you and a new list of notables will come in, then stay the night.

Why: It’s Café Royal’s second, sumptuous incarnation, why wouldn’t you?
