Fresh Picks: NIYAMA

- Joy Pecknold, Passport blog editor

“Fresh Picks” features the latest luxury properties admitted into the Kiwi Collection. This week, we take a peek inside NIYAMA.

Where: A 40-minute soar by seaplane from Malé, the resort stretches out over two idyllic islands, Embudhufushi and Olhuveli (say that three times fast), on the South Western Atoll of Dhaalu.

What: 86 studios and pavilions on the sand or hovering over the sea. Many offer the perk of a private pool, exclusive beach access and 24-hour butler service. In addition to a slew of sexy restaurants – including one you reach by boat – a spa, state-of-the-art gym and a marine biology lab for coral rehabilitation, it boasts the Maldives’ first underwater club (so you can sip Bacardi and shake a tail fin with the fishes).

Who: Those who like the newest, shiniest, prettiest things a.k.a early adopters, NIYAMA Maldives is still getting polished and primed for opening January 15, 2012.

Why: It’ll be cold and dark in the Northern Hemisphere when this utopia opens, so let’s swap Wall Street to Occupy Maldives and reclaim all the Vitamin D we’ve lost.
