Fresh Picks: Sofitel So Bangkok

- Joy Pecknold, Passport blog editor

Fresh Picks features the latest luxury properties admitted into the Kiwi Collection. This week, we peek in on the Sofitel So Bangkok.

Where: Bustling Bangkok. The hotel is near Lumpini Park, business and entertainment districts, and 15 miles from Suvarnabhumi airport.

What: The 238 hotel rooms, which designer Christian Lacroix had a hand in decorating, are inspired by the four elements of water, earth, wood, and metal. A complimentary mini-bar and an Apple Mac Mini with integrated entertainment comes with the room, and for suites, the use of an iPad too. There are a number of bars and restaurants where you can wet your whistle and whet your appetite, including the rooftop Park Society with its staggering city views. You’ll also get a good vantage point above Bangkok from the serene spa treatment rooms.

Who: Those in town on business, or those returning from a trek in the Thai jungle. Both want comfort, free WIFI and a good, strong cocktail.

Why: Because why do beige again when you can have cobalt blue walls.
