Fresh Picks: The Modern Honolulu

- Joy Pecknold, Passport blog editor

Fresh Picks features the latest luxury properties admitted into the Kiwi Collection. This week, we say aloha to The Modern Honolulu.

Where: The beachfront Honolulu neighborhood of Waikiki on the island of O’ahu. Head to the nearby beach for a surf, hike up to the tuff cone rim of Diamond Head or shop the city center. Nestled near Ala Wai Boat Harbor and Kahanamoku Beach, the resort is a 15-minute drive from the airport.

What: There are 353 modernly dressed suites, from which you can choose between two views, the city or the sea. The pièce de résistance is the Penthouse, a 1,400 sq. ft. suite with a 1,500 sq. ft. terrace, among other things. When you aren’t lazing around one of two oases, the Sunrise pool or adult-only Sunset pool, you’ll find bevvies at The Study lobby bar and bites at Morimoto Waikiki Restaurant, Japanese infused with Western ingredients. Then more spirits and dancing at Addiction nightclub and beach club. To help you recover from Saturday Night Fever, how about a healing Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage at the onsite spa?

Who: If you’re young, cool and contemporary is your modus operandi, this is the Honolulu hotel for you. But it needn’t be all pleasure—this hotel handles business meetings too.

Why: Because if you’re living in the Northern Hemisphere right now, you could use some “lā” and “one” (that’s sun and sand in Hawaiian).
