- Joy Pecknold, Passport blog editor

“Fresh Picks” features the latest luxury properties admitted into the Kiwi Collection. This week, we travel by way of binary code to the majestic, both inside and out, Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa.

Where: In the splendor of southern Chile, overlooking Lake Sarmiento and the pretty Patagonian peaks of UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Torres del Paine National Park. A sentence doesn’t do it justice though, instead take a gander at this couple’s video travel diary for a better glimpse of the gorgeous landscape.

What: Having just opened for its first season in December of last year, this sister property to Tierra Atacama has 40 rooms which feature hand-crafted furnishings and local, natural materials. The Uma Spa includes a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steambath and meditation areas. The restaurant serves up local cuisine and, of course, Chilean wines. And then there are all the guided area excursions to take.

Who: Outdoorsy, adventuresome types looking to rest, relax and summit a mountain. You’ll happily swap rocky ground for a comfy bed and canned beans for gourmet fare, but just this once.

Why: How does all-inclusive sound? Transfer, meals, excursions, open bar and spa facilities are all included in the room rate. Open September until the end of April, it’s an ideal unconventional hot holiday for those looking to escape the Northern Hemisphere’s December/January winter climax. A summery Christmas in Chile? .
