Fresh Picks features the latest luxury properties admitted into the Kiwi Collection. This week, we wander through the Waldorf Astoria Berlin, opening soon.

Where: Within Berlin City West, the retail center which includes the luxury-shopping district of Kurfürstendamm. The hotel is conveniently close to Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten train and metro station and just a 15-minute drive from Tegel Airport.

What: Slick, sophisticated, spacious, tech-savvy rooms, 232 of them. Some also offer balconies, and with 31 floors, you can score a great view of the capital city. The restaurant, Les Solistes by Pierre Gagnaire, offers French-inspired fine dining. There’s also the Romanisches Café, Peacock Alley lobby bar and Lang Bar—inspired by film director Fritz Lang and decked out in Art Deco decor. The hotel also boasts the only Guerlain Spa in Germany.

Who: Since it’s taking reservations for February 1, 2013 and onward, it’s the perfect place to take that new love for a mini break, or perhaps a company planning session for that newly launched business.

Why: Because who doesn’t love that new hotel smell.
