Happy Thanksgiving (in America)

- Melanie Zieba,

Thanksgiving in America occurs the fourth Thursday of November. This is a time to gather with family and friends, triple your calorie intake, get away for the weekend and of course to express thankfulness, appreciation and gratitude.

If you are still planning your Thanksgiving long weekend getaway, here are some of my favorite American hotels and resorts – perfect for a weekend escape.

Cavallo Point: San Francisco, California

This national park lodge known as Cavallo Point is West Coast relaxation at its finest. With Michelin Star dining, a spa offering integrative medicine, and cooking classes for the food lover in all of us, this San Francisco escape will make this  Thanksgiving long weekend one you will never forget.

The Elysian Chicago: Chicago, Illinois

The Elysian Chicago realizes that travel is one of life’s great indulgences. Located right in the heart of downtown Chicago, they are dedicated to reviving the bygone era when travel was synonymous with luxury.

Waldorf Astoria Orlando: Orlando, Florida

Looking to get away with the whole family? The Waldorf Astoria Orlando is the perfect escape for the Thanksgiving weekend. Close to Disney World and complete with its own 18-hole golf course designed by Rees Jones, there’s so much to do here, you’ll be thankful for their poolside cabanas where you can peacefully relax after a day filled with activities.

Intercontinental Montelucia Resort and Spa: Paradise Valley, Arizona

Influenced by the architecture and lifestyle of Andalusia in southern Spain, the Intercontinental Montelucia Resort & Spa offers absolute serenity nestled at the foot of Camelback Mountain. With an abundance of outdoor activities and a variety of spa treatments, this resort is definitely a place worth appreciating.

W New Orleans: New Orleans, Louisiana

Located just steps from the notorious French Quarter, but in a quieter location for a peaceful night’s rest, the W New Orleans is the perfect hotel for an escape within the city.  Be forewarned, you might get so comfortable in your luxurious room that you won’t want to step out of it! Fret not, you can go downstairs and tantalize your taste buds with spicy southern tapas at Zoë Lounge. Thirsty much? Grab a scotch on the rocks or an inventive cocktail at the Whiskey Blue lounge. However, after a few drinks, don’t be surprised if you are tempted  to put on your dancing shoes and head to one of the all-night parties that the French Quarter is famous for!
