Hotel Hana – Maui Review: Escape From it All in Maui

- Monica Laurin,

We sent our regional VP of the Americas, Monica Laurin, to Hotel Hana – Maui. She tells all about this stunning resort in Hawaii!

Traveling the road to Hana is a unique experience.  What’s on the other side of this Maui Island?  You must travel 600 curves and 54 bridges to find out.  Definitely something everyone should experience.  Stop to watch the scenery, waterfalls, private black rock beaches and bamboo forests.  Stop for a local, freshly-made smoothie, or to take in the breathtaking seascape views off the side of the road.

When I arrived at Hotel Hana – Maui it was a breath of fresh air. I was greeted by a sea of friendly faces, mango juice and leis.  The staff here was ready for my arrival and already at my service.

This hotel was recently featured on the Maui episode of the Bachelorette – and it’s not hard to see why!

The lobby of the hotel is a breezy, open space.  I could hear the tinkling of teaspoons on saucers in the background while we checked in, and I could smell the ocean as it was only steps away.

The tranquil fountain in the middle of the lobby was filled with flowers, which were hand-picked every morning off the trees.  In fact, I got to see how the flowers were placed there. A beautiful employee, in a floral dress, picked the flowers. Then, taking off her sandals to walk on the black stones through the water to the fountain, she put them in the water one by one.

Hotel Hana MauiAt Hotel Hana, you can take a walk to your sea ranch cottage, or have a bell cart take you while you sit back and take in the view. The cottage suites are nestled by the ocean and are surrounded by green grass and horses at a distance with a breathtaking view of the sea.

If you’re looking to catch up on your favorite TV show, this gorgeous Maui resort is not the place to be!  There is no TV to take the attention away from your surroundings, which is what makes this hotel such a great place to relax, unwind and let go of the big city life.

The General Manager, Mark Stebbings, once received a comment from a guest that the sea was too loud.  This is a compliment!  The sea was a pleasure to fall asleep and wake up to.  I can’t imagine life without it!

Every night I enjoyed watching the sun set from the hot tub on my large, private lanai with a glass of wine and fresh fruit.

I decided it was a great spot for Yoga, so I ventured to the yoga class the next morning.  There’s really nothing better than yoga in front of the sea with the breeze to keep you cool – truly a therapeutic experience that nothing can replace.

If you’re going to stay at Hotel Hana – Maui, make sure you take the time to ask how some of the employees came about arriving in Hana.  Each one is unique.  Learn about the staff who are locals and really appreciate and care about the area.

You can also swim with the locals at Hamoa Beach.  It’s the best place in the world, as my husband put it.  Hamoa Beach is tucked away off Haneo’o Road, with black sand and waves you can’t beat. The beach is a gem, just waiting to be discovered.
