Where in the world do our well-traveled Kiwi Experts most like to overnight? Every Thursday, a different expert dishes on their five favorite hotels. This week it’s Federica Antonioli. She’s a Gordon Ramsay in the kitchen and our Director of Hotel Programs EMEA.
1. Mezzatorre Resort & Spa, Ischia Island, Italy
The view! The hotel is positioned on a bluff just above the Mediterranean, surrounded by seven hectares of pinewood tress. It has a beautiful fine dining restaurant, where I partook in one of the nicest breakfasts I have ever had. You don’t need to go anywhere else when you stay at Mezzatorre. You won’t leave the resort. Just enjoy the spa, or simply lay in the sun by the pool.
2. Aurelio Lech, Lech am Arlberg, Austria
Located right on the slopes, it’s the most beautiful chalet I have ever seen. The place is modern and comfortable, and the attention to detail is unbelievable. It’s particularly special, because this is where I stayed when my boyfriend proposed. They made our stay incredible, chock full of nice surprises. For dinner, their restaurant offers a five-course meal with authentic produce from the region, while the bar offers a great selection of regional Grappa.
3. The St. Regis Mardavall, Mallorca, Spain
On arrival, I was welcomed with a rose and champagne. Sold! But it’s not just for romancing couples, here families are also welcome, as there are a lot of facilities for kids. Most of their rooms offer beautiful terraces in the garden. If you like the idea of relaxing alongside celebrities, football players and their families at the pool, this is definitely the place to be.
4. Cap Rocat, Mallorca, Spain
What can I say, I love Mallorca, and this hotel is extremely special. More of a couples spot, the hotel was once a military fortress. Its design, decoration and style has a lot of influences from India and Morocco (it almost takes you there!). They appreciate breathtaking views here, as each suite includes a private patio overlooking the bay. Every morning a butler prepares your breakfast on a private terrace; something different and new everyday. There’s direct access to the beach, with hats, flip flops and a beach bag ready for you in the room upon arrival.
5. Armani Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Easily described, it’s Armani as its utmost: pure elegance, simplicity and sophistication. It’s located in the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa. They have a unique concierge concept of “Lifestyle Managers” who are there to help you with anything during your stay, even anticipating your needs. Each guest is assigned to one, and it’s like your best friend away from home. There’s no going hungry here with eight restaurants on offer, including a deli experience courtesy of Peck, one of the most prestigious gourmet shop in Milan. But my favorite is Hashi, a Japanese restaurant overlooking the iconic Dubai Fountain.
