I have lived in London for 3 years now and have never really got to know the East part of the city. Everyone is talking about it now and it definitely has the reputation as the funkier side of London.
When I had the opportunity to experience ANdAZ Liverpool Street, I was excited to explore all that Liverpool Street and the surrounding areas had to offer. Less than a minute walk from Liverpool Street Station lies the very impressive façade of ANdAZ. I arrived at the hotel on Friday night with my boyfriend and we were pleasantly surprised by the laid back check in process that is a part of the philosophy of the ANdAZ brand. No formal desk that you stand behind; we were greeted by a young, cool looking guy with a lap top who took our luggage and checked us in super quickly and then showed us to our suite – what a huge room for a London hotel!
Another thing that became very obvious is that not only were they generous with the space in the rooms but with other touches like complimentary soft drinks and snacks in the minibar, wi-fi and local telephone calls. All so simple but make guests feel so special – makes you wonder why all hotels don’t do the same!
We ate the first night in Eastway – a very chilled brasserie with a great cocktail menu and a beautiful steak – just what we needed after a long week at work. The next day after a long lie in, we ventured out to Shoreditch; only 10 minutes walk away and another of the most upcoming areas in London. Brick Lane is a legendary place in London and also walking distance from ANdAZ, so we idled the afternoon away wandering around the markets and avoiding the hundreds of waiters touting their restaurants on the street to passers by.
On the Saturday evening we were spoilt for choice as to where to eat – ANdAZ Liverpool Street has 5 restaurants and bars; including a sushi bar “Miyako”, a traditional English pub “George” and a seafood and champagne bar “Catch”. We decided on the fine dining option “1901 Restaurant & Bar” and we were not disappointed! The food was delicious and my Orange Caipirinha to start with was gorgeous! The restaurant was absolutely packed that night, and not just with the guests – it is one of THE places to be seen by the locals and, after experiencing the food ourselves, we could see why.
Next morning we visited the famous Spitalfields Market which is across the road from the hotel – people from all over London flock to this attraction every Sunday. This was another revelation for me in this vibrant east London scene!
I always knew that ANdAZ Liverpool Street was a great business hotel – it is situated in the heart of the financial district of London – but it is also a great alternative to the better known hotels in the West End of London. And I will certainly be back there soon!”
