Make a Grand Entrance at the Dorchester Hotel in London

- Melissa Mewdell,

Nothing beats a great first impression, and according to Kiwi Collection President Philippe Kjellgren, first impressions are a specialty at the Dorchester Hotel in London. Arriving at this luxury hotel in London is one of the best parts of the experience he said about his recent stay there.

“You’re immediately surrounded by the latest luxury cars the minute you pull up to the hotel”, said Kjellgren.

Hosting the noble and noteworthy for more than 70 years, it’s not that surprising that the driveway of the Dorchester is overflowing with eye candy for those who appreciate fine automobiles.

But that’s only the beginning of the experience.

Once you check in to the hotel, you make your way through the Promenade – an elaborate entrance way that spans the entire length of Nelson’s Column. This recently refurbished hall is really a series of warm, intimate spaces which end up at an oval leather bar. It’s the perfect spot to see and be seen in London as it is popular among guests and locals alike as a trendy and prestigious place to have afternoon tea or a short business meeting.

Sort of like arriving at an exclusive red carpet affair, there’s only one type of entrance at the Dorchester – grand.

Situated on the most prestigious acre and a half of real estate in the world (right in the heart of Mayfair, overlooking Hyde Park), the Dorchester has recently gone through some pretty substantial renovations. Guests can enjoy some of the most advanced business and entertainment systems in Europe, multi-line telephones, private fax lines, soundproof walls, ceilings and floors and individualistic rooms.

Through its restoration, the Dorchester has really maintained its Art Deco charm while including the very best in modern technology which really makes this hotel perfect for business travelers.

Another notable restoration at this hotel is The Dorchester Spa. The restoration of the spa managed to maintain its original Art Deco glamour, combining it with a contemporary edge.

This hotel also boasts a number of excellent restaurants. Philippe’s two favourites were Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester which features contemporary French cuisine (awarded two Michelin stars) and China Tang at the Dorchester (offering some of the best and most authentic Chinese food outside of China).
