Coming from a coastal city myself (Vancouver BC), I have the pleasure of experiencing the joys of coastal living firsthand. But there is something especially nice about the southern California coast. The warm sunshine and the sparkling beaches are simply breathtaking – especially in Malibu.
Malibu is really a great place to vacation and seemed to be an incredible place to live. It’s easy to see why the celebs want to live there. (Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, Janet Jackson, Pierce Brosnan, and the list goes on!) You really can’t beat the location. Just a 20-minute drive from Santa Monica, Malibu provides the perfect retreat close to all the action, yet far enough away to provide privacy and relaxation. All you need is a convertible and a good pair of sunglasses and you are set!
Blending right in with its glamorous neighborhood is the delightful Malibu Beach Inn. This property is nestled on the unspoiled sands of Carbon Beach (a.k.a. Billionaire’s Beach) and exudes an elegant, yet unpretentious contemporary style. Staying here was an absolute treat.
Check-in was a breeze…with a very helpful gentleman at the front desk who provided an iPod touch virtual concierge. This is the latest development in the hotel industry as of last year. For the duration of your stay, you are given an iPod touch (free of charge) that has all the latest information relating to the Malibu area on it. It also includes an application that provides dedicated access to all the hotel’s features and services – from wake-up calls to spa appointments, dinner reservations, or even requests for your room to be cleaned – all at the touch of a button! Impressive.
The guest room was instantly calming with its high wood-beamed ceilings, private balcony, and the sound of the crashing waves below. The comfortable bed, gas fireplace (perfect for the evening), and the panoramic views set a perfectly romantic ambience. Exclusive paintings of Glenn Ness adorned the walls, and added to that coastal living ‘feeling’ you get when staying here too.
Rooms are well equipped with a large flat screen television, iPod dock, espresso maker and wireless internet. To my husbands delight, the hotel had even printed off the entire Vancouver Sun newspaper for us to read in the morning. We could not believe our eyes!
The hotel’s restaurant features healthy coastal California classics – reflecting the comfort of beachside living. The open terrace is a nice option as well, boasting unobstructed views of the ocean and Malibu pier, with an added romantic atmosphere.
Guests looking to stay in shape have access to the fitness center directly across the street, although the silky sand and crashing waves right next to the hotel accompany a perfect jog along the water quite nicely.
Although this hotel is not right in the heart of Los Angeles, it is still a great place to stay for both business and leisure travelers. Not only is Malibu Beach Inn situated on a famous beach, but it offers a casual but elegant lifestyle that everyone can enjoy.
