Photo Op: Hand in the Sand

Name that landmark, or in this case, handmark.

Suspended in the sands of Punta del Este’s Brave Beach since 1982, what’s known as “The Hand” is the work of Chilean Mario Irrazábal. Made of plastic, steel and metal mesh, the sculpture is oft-photographed and occasionally defaced. Next time you’re in Uruguay, snap it and leave your impermanent “I was here” scribble on the nearby sand.
