The prohibition-era cocktail with a green pallor debuted at the Detroit Athletic Club. It then disappeared for a few decades before resurfacing in Seattle at the Zig Zag Café (it’s the Emerald City after all) after being discovered in an old bartender’s guide book. From there it trickled its way south to Portland, north to Vancouver, across to New York City and Chicago, before going transcontinental at bars in London, Amsterdam and Australia.
1/2 ounce gin
1/2 ounce lime juice
1/2 ounce green Chartreuse
1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
