Our whole family (my Wife and I plus 2 young children) were between Puerto Morelos and Playa Del Carmen at a resort called The Grand Mayan in April for 2 weeks. The security was great, the staff was wonderful, and the day trips to places like Playa Del Carmen never left us feeling like there were any safety issues. Ok, we just had a guy blow up a granade in night club, and the consulate is screaming: "Don't come to Vallarta!!! There's gang activity!" Look, truth is, he was drunk and playing with the pin!!! If you are looking for trouble, you'll find it anywhere you go. For the rest of us, Mexico is as safe and beautiful as it ever was. The people who realize this will cash in on good deals while the feary ones stay north of the border. Viva Mexico! All this fear mongering is nothing but propaganda!
