Spotlight: Amankila

There’s something special about each and every luxury hotel. In our Spotlight series we showcase one property and highlight its most fantastic features—both the latest and longstanding. This week, we see what’s unique at Amankila.

Spot: Perched beside palm trees on a hillside with the Lombok Strait in the foreground and the majestic Mount Agung in the background, this Indonesian paradise in the Karangasem region of Bali boasts a three-tiered infinity pool and a quiet, white sandy beach. Partake in peaceful yoga classes or spa treatments, or get energized with a cultural tour or water sports. Raised walkways connect the reception and restaurants to the 34 suites, some of which provide you your own private pool. The living is easy.

Highlight: There’s no bad time to do Bali, but if you happen to come for your birthday, Amankila has a special way of celebrating it. They’ll arrange to have you receive a blessing from their local priest that involves a Hindu prayer of hope, physical strength, determination, truth and ability to face life’s challenges. Then a yarn bracelet is placed on your wrist, which symbolizes love, health and happiness. That’s a gift you won’t have to worry about stuffing in your suitcase when you leave.
