Staying on Sunset Boulevard at the Andaz West Hollywood Hotel

The Los Angeles area is a place that every girl must visit at least one time in their life.  It offers the best of a west coast vacation – blazing sun, great big ocean, endless shopping, fantastic eats and amazing nightlife.

After a long day of traveling from Sydney, I finally made it to my hotel, the swanky Andaz West Hollywood located on the infamous Sunset Blvd strip. They say first impressions are everything, and Andaz West Hollywood impressed immediately. The check-in process was a breeze, in fact it was my most memorable hotel experience. Not to undermine the rest of my amazing stay but I was surprised that there was no front desk; instead I was greeted by one of the personal lobby hosts who brought me over to one of the couches. While she was checking me in, I was sipping a cocktail. Then she showed me my room. It felt very personal; very VIP.

Besides the room being sleek and posh, the best bonus was all the complimentary hotel amenities that were available. Here is my confession of a Sydney girl: I had myself the best soda, snack, and high speed internet party.

For dinner I leaned towards something more sophisticated. I went to their new open kitchen restaurant RH lead by Executive Chef Sebastian Archambault who was classically trained in France. The food was fantastic! Everything was fresh, refined and beautifully presented. If you are looking for something a little more casual for dinner, right next door to the hotel is Katana, a spacious and dark robata and sushi bar. Or a little further down the street is El Compadre serving up some great Mexican food and is known to be the “home of the flaming margaritas”.

The next morning, I hit the strip to go shopping. The Andaz West Hollywood is the perfect starting point for great designer stores. I strolled Robertson Boulevard for all the trendy brands but my favorite spot was KIN owned by Darrel Adams, located just up the street from the hotel on Sunset Boulevard. This place offers a wide selection of clothing, shoes, and accessories for both men and women and is known for being a place where celebs and people in the know shop.

Adorned in my new purchases of the day, I decided to go for pre-drinks at the hotels roof top patio before a night of clubbing up the street at the newly opened Trousdale, which on Tuesday nights is a happening spot.  The patio overlooks the Hollywood hills and was all a buzz with guests who just got back from the Cochella Music Festival in Palm Springs. If I didn’t already have plans, I could have easily made this my hangout for the rest of the evening.

I was excited to come back to my comfy bed at the Andaz West Hollywood after a long night in my dancing shoes. As I say goodnight to LA, I say goodbye to my time spent here at the hotel as it was everything I had hoped for. Everyone treated me so well and the location was just perfect. Just like a home away from home.
