Vid Trippin’: The Voyagers

- Joy Pecknold, Passport blog editor

“About two small spacecraft, an epic journey, taking risks and falling in love. Also Carl Sagan.”

That’s how documentarian Penny Lane (yes, that’s her real name), describes her short film The Voyagers.

And no matter where you stand on Valentine’s Day—love it, loathe it, utterly indifferent to it—you’ll be charmed by this unexpected little love story, which Lane created as a wedding video for her husband. The story takes you from Coney Island to the farthest reaches of the galaxy, and the reel itself has traveled quite a distance too, showing at film festivals around the world. It’s a good 16 minutes long, so grab a coffee and settle in. You’re allowed, it’s Friday.

To learn more about Lane and her film, read The Atlantic‘s recent interview with her, “On Space, Love and Carl Sagan’s Cosmic Mix Tape.”
