The beautiful Bauer Il Palazzo in Venice is truly a hotel worthy of its surroundings. Ornate and heart-achingly romantic, you'll want to park your gondola and stay a while.

If the Veal fillet baked in salt crust with mushrooms is featured when you arrive, order it. You'll be glad you did.

The world's most beautiful city deserves a hotel worthy of the same distinction. At least that must have been what the owners of Bauer Il Palazzo were thinking when they designed their hotel. Elegant, luxurious - Bauer Il Palazzo is Venetian opulence at its best.

Grand yet intimate, the hotel boasts 82 individually designed rooms and suites. Lavish furniture and Italian marble lend elegance, while Venetian decorative flourishes give a feeling of true authenticity.

Downstairs, De Pisis restaurant offers up mouth-watering Mediterranean and internationally inspired dishes to satisfy even the most demanding palates. As you dine, enjoy incomparable views of the Grand Canal below - perhaps the only seats better than the ones inside the restaurant are those on its sunny outdoor terrace.

After dinner, enjoy a romantic gondola ride down Venice's canals. With its own private dock and helpful staff to serve you, hiring a gondola is as easy as walking outside.

We had booked a room with a view of the Grande Canal but were upgraded to a Junior Suite as we had booked through Kiwi Collection. Our suite was well appointed, really nothing to complain, considering that this is an older hotel. The hotel is in a great location particularly if you are in Venice for a first-time visit. Unfortunately there is a major construction going on right next to the hotel, therefore expect even more noise right now than you are getting from traffic on the Grande Canal anyways. Service was impeccable at the hotel and really outstanding at the much quieter sister hotel Palladio on Giudecca Island where we went for a visit and a dinner. That´s probably where we would stay next time we come to Venice.
