As you bask in the rejuvenating waters of the Bauer Palladio's spa, your nerves tingling pleasurably, you may think it ironic that not long ago this beautiful Renaissance-era building on Giudecca Island was a convent for unmarried women. But then, gazing out on the picture postcard view of Venice's lagoon - St. Mark's Square visible in the distance - you'll see that the convent's founders were right - the best place to escape from the cares and troubles of the world is right here.

Though the Bauer Palladio has been updated to provide both modern comfort and luxury, it still retains its identity as a sanctuary. Rooms are spacious, with warm colors and antique furnishings. Many have garden terraces or views of the Venetian lagoon.

The lagoon itself is crossed via the hotel's electro-solar powered shuttle. It's just a short, leisurely ride across the Grand Canal to St. Mark's Square and all the shopping and sightseeing that Venice has to offer.
