270 rooms exude a modern interpretation of that old colonial feel, with dark wood and graphic floral prints popping out from a white and gold palette. Guests will also enjoy a 37-inch TV, a bath-side LCD screen, Blu-ray DVD player, and WiFi.
The much-loved Jazz Club is still in order, with a brand new polish. Of course, that's just one of six spots to whet your whistle and fill your appetite. Dragon Phoenix does authentic Chinese, and the Cathay Room serves up European favorites with a side of epic views of the Bund.
For those in need of a mental a physical realignment, Willow Stream Spa balances ying and yang with ancient Chinese techniques. Of course, not everything about the spa is from days gone by: beauty treatments are decidedly (and thankfully) modern.
