And so it goes at 60-room-and-suite Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, which takes every opportunity to get you close to nature. Found next to the rushing Ayung River, the Balinese-style spa has three thatch-roofed couples' villas joined to outdoor bathing pavilions. Go for the Lulur Sayan, an aromatic body scrub and soak followed by a traditional island massage.

For more valley views, Bali up to teak Jati Bar. The river is spectacular from a gorge-side table at Ayung Terrace, home to some fine Balinese cooking.
