The spa is one of the best out there; someone obviously spent a fortune creating it.
Cozily ensconced in the Swiss Alps' Engadine Valley, Grand Hotel Kronenhof oozes cognac-by-the-fireplace sophistication. Original 19th-century ceiling frescoes overlook an impossibly opulent dining room. South-facing rooms and suites offer views of the sun-dappled Roseg Glacier. Fondue Chinoise is served in an antique bowling alley.
All this is upstaged, however, by the range of activities that takes place outside Grand Hotel Kronenhof's doors. Summertime favorites include mountaineering, mountain biking, golf, and even windsurfing, more than a mile above sea level. The area truly comes alive during winter, however, when more than 300 miles of downhill and cross-country ski trails open to the public.
Grand Hotel Kronenhof opened its 21,500-square-foot spa in 2007, adding yet another centerpiece to the property: a 25- by 65-foot indoor swimming pool with breathtaking mountain vistas and underwater music. Steam baths, treatment rooms, and saunas are also available.
