For travellers wanting an authentic Berlin experience, the Hotel de Rome, converted from an 1889 bank, retains all its original grandeur, and adds a welcome contemporary flair.
Rooms and suites have original architectural details, as well as amenities like iPod docking stations and DVD players. Bathrooms boast limestone basins and mosaic tiling. Unique touches include Pompeii red accents, and room doors designed to look like bank vaults.
In the summer, The Parioli restaurant makes a charming spot for a Mediterranean meal, with unique creations (think ravioli of Breton lobster with basil tomatoes). And if a quick business lunch is on your agenda, the mid-week "mezzogiorno" business lunch is served within 30-45 minutes.
However, if you've got a bit more time, have a swim in the 66-ft. pool (located in the hotel's former vault). Then have a Spa de Rome facial - now you're ready for a night at the Staatsoper opera, just a short walk away.
