In 1920, Punta Tragara was sculpted out of a rock face in Capri as a private villa. Since, it has housed some very famous people - notably, General Eisenhower and Winston Churchill during WWII.

In 1968, the villa was purchased by a count and became the Hotel Punta Tragara. Here, past and present blend beautifully; Neapolitan and contemporary art, plus archaeological artifacts, decorate the 44 spacious guest rooms. Massive marble bathrooms add to the luxury, and patios off most suites reveal what you really came here for - the sparkling Mediterranean sea, where limestone Sea Stacks (Faraglioni) jut out majestically.

Indeed, water is all around in Capri, from Marina Piccola below to the two saltwater pools on site - one heated. Hotel Punta Tragara even offers Dead Sea salt treatments in their soothing spa.
