Hotel Unique

Designed by Ruy Ohtake, the arc of Hotel Unique challenges the Sao Paulo skyline with its distinct architecture. Stepping through the metal doors, it's clear what the hotel's website means when it states that Hotel Unique is "a place to not feel like home." The intriguing combination of rich woods, industrial metals, and the occasional Baroque piece pry open ideas of conventional living space. Every surface in the 95 rooms and suites has been designed to surprise and delight the viewer. Traditional opulence gets a nod in the Italian Jacuzzi tubs while the design edge is honed with speakers in the indoor pool and the remarkable tranquility of the spa and gym area.

Although located outside downtown in Jardim Paulista, the hotel hosts scores of hip Paulistanos frequenting the rooftop bar, lounge, and swimming pool. The beautiful people and view of the city make every night into nightlife, but feel free to take a breather at the architecture library with free Internet.
