Standing beside a manicured green park, Ohtel's blocky frontage stands out from its much more classic neighbors against the low, green trees rising up the hill behind.

Make sure to book the top floor rooms which have great balconies and views of Wellington.

In the city of Wellington, New Zealand, Ohtel guards the bottom of Mount Victoria in the trendy Oriental Bay neighborhood. With just 10 rooms, there’s just enough space to hold only the most fashion forward explorers of this cultural melting pot. Painfully hip bars, cafes, and boutiques are a common site here, as is the towering spray from Carter Fountain.

The hotel itself is all about a mid-century aesthetic, showing off a collection of original furniture from such greats as Arne Jacobsen, Eames, N O Møller, and Nanna Ditzel to name but a few.

Once you stop fawning over the furnishings, guests enjoy king-size beds, two-person showers, gourmet mini-bar, and a wellness and fitness room. Luckily, the fitness equipment is slightly newer that mid-century.
