Sheltered under the gnarled arms of massive acacias, Savute Elephant Camp provides adventure-seekers a luxurious nest from which they can safely watch the world's most formidable beasts traverse the plains of the savannah.

Expect to see families of elephants lumber by, stripping the leaves off nearby trees, from the spacious balcony of your deluxe suite. Prides of lions 30 to 40 strong will likely follow. Not to mention zebras, cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs, and more than 250 species of flamboyantly feathered birds that populate the terrain.

If you can pull yourself away from the onsite facilities, which include an outdoor swimming pool, a library, and elevated wildlife viewing decks, pile into an open 4x4 to check out migrating zebra herds (in February and October), the ancient San rock paintings, or do some world-class birding on the edge of the Savute Marsh.

Savute Elephant Camp is strategically situated to maximize contact with wildlife - within the Chobe National Park and just north of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The camp can only be accessed by scheduled flights to Maun airport, usually from Johannesburg or Cape Town. From there, the camp's charter Cessnas will pick you up and fly you directly to the site.
