Great location but let down by food

This is a truly beautiful hotel in a unique location and as such it is expensive!
Unfortunately the food was not up to the sort of standard I would expect for this price. This is partly the general US problem that the food seems to neeed to big and sweet to satistfy the american palate. But more importantly also due to careless execution in the kitchen. For example poached eggs arrived still with water having not been properly drained. Greens had limp and yellow leaves (not picked over properly) and toast burned. There just doesn't seem to be any care in the kitchen. The menu means it is very difficult to eat healthy.
The coffee was just the sort of dishwater I have come to expect in the US. It is really difficult to find coffee of the standard we are used to in NZ and Australia, although I did find a local santa Monica cafe (Cafe Luxxe) that served excellent coffee. Why can't a hotel like this get this expertise in house?
Would I stay heard again? Yes, but I would tend to eat eslewhere.

The hotel was wonderful and I will recommend it to everyone I know. However, I will not recommend booking through Kiwi. When we arrived at the hotel, there was no mention of a room upgrade, spa credit, late check-out or any of the other so called "Kiwi Advantages" that you advertise. Immediately I called your customer service and was told that not all hotels offer "Kiwi Advantages". We got absolutely nothing! Your advertising on what you offer is misleading, inaccurate, and evasive. I'll go back to booking with American Express.
