Stonebarn

The Rangé family has created something seemingly timeless here in Pemberton. Stonebarn is - at its core - exactly what its name implies: hand-set local stone, wide timbers, and creatively chosen furnishings combining to form a large barn and six bespoke cottages - each of the latter offering a claw-foot tub, flat-screen TV, iPod dock, and kitchenette.

Although not ideal for children, Stonebarn will have adults reeling at the possibilities for misadventure. The food and wine program at the lodge is legendary, and local truffle fields and wineries ensure a continually fluctuating variety of treats.

Bush walks and fly-fishing make for highly efficient methods of unwinding, and farmer's markets provide a bounty of local ingredients should you desire to put your kitchenette to the test.

One experience that must be had before returning to the big smoke is a bush bath. Quite literally, it's a hot bath drawn for you out amongst the trees and birdcalls. Yes, you can bring your glass of Merlot.
