The Cullen is all about the art. Bring your critical eye.
Inspired by Australia's most-collected living artist, The Cullen shares the same enfant terrible playfulness so expertly demonstrated in the colorful works of Adam Cullen.
One would be hard-pressed to pick a better location for The Cullen then Prahran, a whimsical arts, culture, and fashion district outside of the CBD. The area holds on to a bohemian feeling despite many new upscale restaurants, boutiques, and lounges.
Approaching The Cullen's electro-chic black and neon exterior, guests get a primer on what they're about to experience on the inside. The eclectic works of the artist aside, the hotel's interior design is modern and bold without coming off as too stark. Six room types range from the intelligently arranged Studio, to the sprawling Cullen Suite, kitted out with two King size beds, 42" flat screen TV, and private balcony.
Rent one of the hotel's Smart Cars for a trip around town, or do it on your own power, atop one of The Cullen's classic Kronan bikes. Later, stay in, and try one of two hotel eateries. Terrace Bistro Bar shows Melbourne's Mediterranean roots with outdoor Italian favorites and a rustic-yet-modern design aesthetic. For something a touch wilder, venture into Hutong's, an authentically styled Chinese brasserie, where the dumplings roll out of the kitchen piping hot fresh - only to be gobbled down with great haste (and the occasionally seared tongue).
