If British style was ever going to a get a makeover, one might expect it to go down in England. But it was The George in Hamburg that added a modern and light-hearted twist to English tradition.

Sip single malts at the Whiskey Bar, or head to the rooftop Campari Bar for inspiring views over Hamburg.

It only makes sense that a hotel like The George would spring up in the colorful, vivacious, and tolerant St. Georg district of Hamburg. This fantastic hotel has a seemingly impossible task of adding a modern twist to colonial style. Deep, rich leather couches sit on distressed hardwood flooring. The lighting creates a totally intimate but still vibrant atmosphere. Somehow, it all works.

The 125 rooms and suites range in size and color. They're elegant but still fresh. Classy designer lamps illuminate royal damask wallpaper. Mood lighting is covered, but you'll have to provide your own mood music. Thankfully, all rooms are equipped with iHome sound systems and complimentary Internet access.

The menu at Restaurant DaCaio is always changing, but never strays from modern interpretations of classic Italian cuisine. There is also a British style bar, offering a traditional afternoon tea and homemade cocktails that are just as inventive as the decor.
