The Inn at English Harbour, a colonial gem on Antigua's south-western coast, blends historic charm with up-to-the-minute services and amenities. And the beach ain't bad either.

For all their natural beauty, their white-sand beaches and their turquoise waters, most tropical resorts lack a certain grandeur. The problem, one quickly notices, is chiefly architectural. Not here. The Inn at English Harbour retains the colonial might that was the purpose of its original construction, without sacrificing the convenience of distinctly modern amenities.

Accommodations - 28 historic rooms and an additional 24 suites built in 2000 - are tastefully appointed, with mahogany floors and wood furnishings upholstered in beaming wedding-dress white. Outside, Antigua's English Harbor is near-Pandoran in scope and beauty.

Popular activities include onsite tennis and nearby golf, along with the full range of water sports - kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, waterskiing, sailing and more. Two restaurants, Terrace and The Reef, serve Caribbean and international cuisine.
