Big Sky Country indeed. One may wonder what makes one patch of sky larger than the next, but while wading waste-deep into the creek in search of trout, the blue up above does in fact feel enormous – and occasionally dumbfounding.
Montana offers a varied terrain, with outdoor sporting opportunities as rich as the land itself. It also offers The Ranch at Rock Creek, a rugged-yet-refined lodge in the heart of the valley. This timber and granite throwback is beyond charming: Tree branches have been re-purposed as bed frames and chairs, leather is stretched and softened into cushion covers, and soft, natural wool and cotton bedspreads await adventure-weary ranchers come days' end.
In the main Granite Lodge, nine rooms are available. For a more intimate feel, opt for one of eight canvas tents(classic and family), four log homes, a private cabin, a private tented cabin, or one of three log cabins.
Fine meals made with local fare are served in the Granite Lodge, fuelling guests for days spent fly-fishing, horseback riding, hiking, clay shooting, mountain biking, and skiing in wintertime. When you feel need to return to your city-slicker roots, head inside for some bowling. Yes, real cowboys roll once in a while, too.
