A little sloppy around the edges
David from wilton gave it a 5 out of 10 - reviewed Sep. 15, 2012
On the positive side, the staff were very willing and friendly. There were some issues with the room - nothing disastrous but somewhat irritating. The air conditioning in room 501 was simply not up to the task of cooling the room which reached 80 degrees, despite putting the setting at 68. It was obviously a recurring issue as they had also placed a stand alone cooling device in the room, which barely was continuously running. Apparently they were sending up someone to "have a look" but I dont know what the problem was because no-one bothered to follow up.
The stereo didn't work and some ugly wires are visible from behind the television. Elsewhere, it was just a little scuffed. Not terrible, just a little tired
Thompson Beverly Hills
Joe from sydney gave it a 1 out of 10 - reviewed Sep. 3, 2012
Really great stay until we left, the VERY RUDE valet took 40min to get our car, I can only assume it was because we didn't drive a Porsche. The must got car for about five other people cars before they got ours with no explaination, even the door man was embarrassed. I think you were even surprised when they didn't get a tip.
Sparse rather than Designer
Richard from London gave it a 1 out of 10 - reviewed Aug. 27, 2012
I'm afraid this hotel is not what I would expect from a Boutique hotel. It was minimal and harsh, trying to be designer chic but without the quality to back it up. The room was a touch bare, the black wooden floor scuffed, the chairs in the room un-comfortable to sit on. I would go so far as to say the room was depressing. Not a room you could relax in. No towels where in the room, we only realised this once in the shower, over site of room service I guess, but was rectified when we called down.
The redeeming features of this hotel were the roof terrace and pool, the helpful and friendly staff and the location, right in the heart of Beverly hills.
The Thompson Hotel
Camille from Sydney gave it a 5 out of 10 - reviewed Aug. 1, 2012
The Thompson Hotel is well located, within walking distance to Rodeo Drive and Barneys which is great if you want to shop. After booking the hotel on the kiwi collection website, I booked a rate but then when I received confirmation (which I received the day before I left and was already on my flight) so that by the time we checked out of the hotel room, the rate was over $100 more than the rate that I had booked through the Kiwi Collection which was quite disappointing and a bit of a shock when we received the bill.
The rooms are okay, but very dark and very small.
The staff were friendly and polite but not exceptional.
We then stayed at The London Hotel in West Hollywood which was exceptional - everything from the moment we checked in to the moment we left - the staff were incredible, even organising for drinks to be sent to our table at restaurants that we had booked through the concierge. The rate was the same as The Thompson and our room was 3 times the size at the London and breakfast was included, which was not the case at The Thompson.
The Thompson was ok but I wouldn't recommend to stay there. The pool is nice but no where near as amazing as The London Hotel.
beautiful hotel, great service and food
Loretta from near Chapel Hill gave it a 10 out of 10 - reviewed Jan. 10, 2012
My family booked four rooms here and stayed four nights over the New Year's holiday. The hotel was near a wedding we were attending. The location is ideal - walking distance to great shopping; big and small dining venues ( we found a great sushi place about a block away) The food at the hotel is very good also. I like the new sunny restaurant, Caulfied's. The rooftop pool with its amazing view was a special treat. The fitness center was perfect for us. In addition , the hotel is very clean and the beds are incredibly comfortable. We were so happy we decided to stay here. The extra ammenities provided through Kiwi/Visa were the reason we decided to stay here vs another nearby hotel. I'm glad we chose the Thompson.
