Fishing at Ashford Castle
Ashford Castle is ideally situated on the banks of the Lough Corrib and the River Cong - perfect for salmon fishing!
Ashford Castle, in Cong, Co Mayo, is one of Ireland's treasures - and keen fishermen (and women) will be flocking there this June for Atlantic salmon fishing on the River Cong, offered in partnership with Orvis.

This is the ideal place for your next family holiday, by the way. Castles are usually associated with fairytales, and the family package at Ashford Castle includes falconry lessons, horseback riding and much more.
There is a nine-hole Eddie Hackett golf course, and you can take the Lady Ardilaun trip to cruise to the island of Inchagoil. You have hundreds of acres of estate to roam, and the castle to admire and explore.
Look at the inglenook outside the Connaught Room (yes, the inglenook seating area is big enough for four people). Ashford Castle has an amazing history, and it claims it is the world's oldest hotel, with 'excellence since 1228'.

The ruins nearby are of an Augustine Abbey built in the 12th centuury, but the Castle itself is 13th, built in 1228 for the de Burgo family. It later passed to the family of Lord Bingham, and then the Oranmore and Browne family. In 1852 it belonged to a Guinness, who willed it to his son, Lord Ardilaun, who was a great tree lover and planted many of the fine trees on the estate. It passes through several other owners until the 84-room hotel was purchased early 2008 by Edward Holdings.
